*Acupuncture is also an effective form of preventative medicine. People who receive acupuncture find that they get sick less often. Treatments assist the body in working at its highest potential.

What about the needles?

Acupuncture needles are slightly wider than a human hair. Only the finest quality stainless steel, sterilized, and disposable needles are used. Patients report a variety of sensations from needle insertion which generally last only for a few seconds. Often patients report a slight sting, tingling or dull ache. Most people find treatment to be very relaxing.

How does it work?

Acupuncture is different than anything we have in western medicine in that it works with Qi or our life energy. Qi runs through the body along twelve main channels , There are specific points along the channels where Qi can be accessed. There are over three hundred acupuncture points on the body. When Qi is blocked or depleted, pain, discomfort or illness arises. With insertion of the needles at specific points, acupuncture treatments balance and revitalize Qi, thereby alleviating symptoms.

How frequently do I need to be treated in order to receive the benefits?

The frequency of treatment varies with each individual. It is best for you to come in for treatment once a week for 4-5 weeks in the beginning in order to let the initial treatments build on one another and to let the practitioner monitor your progress. In time, your treatments will most likely get spaced out over longer intervals.

Will my insurance cover the cost?

Treatments must be paid for at the time they are received. You will be provided with a receipt at each appointment which can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement. Insurance companies are starting to cover acupuncture more and more. Please check your individual policy.
